FCC Releases “Connect America Fund” Order to Foster Broadband Deployment in Unserved Areas

The FCC has released the 759-page Connect America Fund (“CAF”) Report and Order and Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that triggers sweeping reforms to modernize the Universal Service and Intercarrier Compensation systems and to expand broadband to 18 million unserved Americans throughout the nation. The rules adopted as part of these reforms should take effect by January 1, 2012.
