Thoughts from the 2009 Horizon Report: economic development edition

The Evolving Technologies Committee is considering which technologies to highlight over the coming year. It's a bit early for the 2010 Horizon Report, but the 2009 economic development edition is of interest. In addition to the always-useful overviews and descriptions of various emerging technologies, the report notes the following challenges which are quite relevant to the educational sector (quoted from page 4):

  • students are not educated in a culture of innovation and creativity
  • we have a growing need for instruction in information literacy, visual literacy, and technological literacy

A nice reminder that sometimes technology is the easy part.
