Security Professionals Conference 2012 Recap
Security Professionals Conference 2012 Recap
Security and IT professionals from the higher education community gathered to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Security Professionals Conference in Indianapolis, May 15-17, 2012. This year's face-to-face event had a record-breaking 438 attendees (an increase of almost 100 participants from the 2011 conference in San Antonio). The online security conference, offered for the second year in a row, was a great success with over 100 registered attendees (estimated exposure to the full online event was approximately 250 participants).
The Higher Education Information Security Council (HEISC) also took this opportunity to celebrate 10 years of security professionals gatherings and accomplishments by creating a new Facebook timeline, where the community is invited to help us highlight past, present, and future landmarks in information security.
While celebrating several milestones in 2012, this year also marked the first time that the Security Conference was co-located with the Enterprise IT Leadership Conference. In an effort to encourage security professionals and IT leaders to network and convene on enterprise security issues, the two program committees collaborated to offer a joint reception, general session, and twelve concurrent sessions. The May 17 general session, Ensuring Efective Communications for Information Security on Campus, consisted of C-level executives sharing their perspectives and proved to be a very lively discussion.
