Wondering how others approach the issue of individual account requests (or password retrieval) for Alumni.

Particularly, what office handles that at your school (Alumni Affairs? IT?), and what if any identity verification you might perform. For example, do you require a copy of a photo ID of your alumni?  If they predate the current ERP,  what if any data attributes do you require? (Name? Email, birthdate, addresss, cell phone?)

Thanks for any insights-
Andrew

We provide email for life using Office 365 and rre in the process of setting up Active Directory accounts for all alumni in order to provide AD federation for our current students and employees who use O365.  We have a self-service password reset service on our portal, which is accessible to all from the University web site.  This is a custom portlet that Jenzabar wrote for us.  The Office of Alumni and Development handle all communications with our alumni.

Andrew,

Your best two options for free will be either MS 360 or Google Apps.  We use Google apps with simply an alumni.beloit.edu domain name.  It is so easy, that after initial setup, you could potentially hand it completely off to the Alumni Department to manage if you wanted.
