Below is a reminder of the EDUCAUSE guidelines for commercial participation.

Promotional Messages and Advertising
EDUCAUSE Constituent and Discussion Groups are educational in nature and not intended for promotional announcements, advertising, product-related press releases, or other commercial use. Please note that unsolicited commercial communications to constituent group participants as a result of postings to a Constituent or Discussion list violate the promotional messages and advertising provisions of these guidelines and may result in the loss of access to the listserv in question.

It's fine if a member of our community were to come forward and say they'd found a great document to assist in the discussion of an appropriate topic and it happened to be from a corp.   It's fine if a community member wants to discuss a specific vendor-related product/topic.  It's actually fine to just add it if you were thinking of this topic anyway.  However, if a vendor wants to talk to potential customers, you can refer him/her to our Corporate Participation page http://www.educause.edu/about/corporate-participation  &corp@educause.edu.

Hello everyone,

We continue to add new members to this and the many other EDUCAUSE hosted listservs. They are designed to create free and open forums where we can engage others on various topics of discussion. Or course, this one is geared toward the use of virtual worlds, of any platform, as teaching and learning tools. As with any free and open space, we all need to moderate our activity so that it stays within the realms of their designed use.

AJ and I have not had to put on our moderator hats in quite some time as our listserv discussions do stay on task and within the bounds of the participation guidelines. So this message is simply a gentle reminder about the use of the list for those who have recently joined us.

With that said, we do truly value our vendors and sponsors as they provide a rich source of valuable information and advice that we all benefit from when they, like ourselves, contribute to the discussions hosted here. So I would like to take the opportunity to thank them for their contributions here and to EDUCAUSE in general.

AJ Kelton and I are this groups co-leaders and the listserv’s moderators. If anyone is inappropriately contacted as a result of information that was posted to this listserv, please let us know as we would be glad to take action to correct the situation. As your group leaders, we are committed to fostering a free an open forum where we can all engage in healthy and nonthreatening discussions.

Best regards,

Jeff and AJ
