Leif, We are currently using Qualtrics. It is Saas in the cloud. It is a really slick tool. We do not have a site license yet but have a couple of groups that have licensed it for their departments. Our Research office is working on a campus wide site license. The site license would give everyone access including students to use it. Pricing is really reasonable from what I see. Sorry about being late to the game...

We use Qualtrics too.  It's full-featured and can be skinned to look like the organization that's using it.

For less full featured surveys (such as the one I sent to ITANA for the New-to-higher-ed subgroup), Google Forms is a useful alternative.  It puts the results in a Google spreadsheet and is, of course, free.

What survey tool (Survey Monkey, Qualtrics, Vovici, Zoomerang, Limesurvey, etc.) would you recommend for campus-wide use. We are looking for something that is easy to maintain, easy for our users to setup surveys themselves, and provides great reporting / analytical tools. Dear Jeremy,

I am also looking for information on the various online survey tools - description, advantages, disadvantages, etc. Does any know where I can find an assessment of the major online survey tools. Like Jeremy, I would like to hear your recommendations.

Hi Everyone,

You should include Qualtrics in your evaluation.  We use Qualtrics here in the College of Sciences.

All feedback has been positive.  Cost is reasonable, and all are covered (Faculty/Staff/Students).

Faculty and staff rave about it; individual departments have terminated renewals/contracts with Survey Gizmo, Survey Monkey, and Zoomerang in favor of Qualtrics.

Jeremy We have been using Qualtrics now for over three years, and staff, faculty and students all use it extensively. Faculty create complex surveys for research purposes, students use it to generate data for class projects, and offices throughout campus employ it for just about every purpose including event invites, polls, and institutional assessment studies. It is a sophisticated and flexible package with excellent reporting tools, yet simple enough to use by most all community members. There is minimal maintenance, but many (even experienced) users come to our InTech center to explore additional and often creative ways to use the program. Support has been great and they have worked with us when special needs arose. We no longer 'survey' people, we 'qualtrix' them. The program has actually changed the way some offices work, saving staff many hours, or even days of work. We've used Limesurvey, and it has met our needs, is easy to use and maintain, has adequate reporting for our use.

Hello Jeremy,

We use Checkbox, by Prezza Technologies, www.checkbox.com. It was selected because of the capacity to install a locally hosted application and was an affordable option that included reporting and invitation management, we've used it with mixed satisfaction. Feel free to contact directly for any specific questions.

With Optimism,

We currently use Survey Monkey for surveys, but from the responses here, it looks like we will check out Qaltrics. Tangentially, for collecting data in online forms, we are using Gravity Forms, a plug in for WordPress. It does not have survey reporting and analysis tools, but is a great form building tool that allows end users to independently create forms and collect data into a database. It reduces paper, data entry, and has replaced some custom web applications. Elizabeth Hayes Director of Administrative Information Services Vassar College 845-437-5938 elhayes@vassar.edu

We use SurveyMonkey or the survey tool within Google Apps for Education. GAE's tool is becoming the survey tool of choice given it's feature set and ease of use.

Qualtrics hands-down.  We've been on it for a few years and it's great.  One of the best features is the ability to collaboratively develop survey, i.e. share it, so student teams or student-faculty research pairs can work online on the same survey.

Has anyone developed a survey for deciding on an email solution? We are beginning the process of defining requirements and want to do a survey but would like to see what others have done.

Also, is there a standardized IT survey for getting feedback from our customers regarding their overall experience?  If there was such a survey then we could see how we rate with other colleges.

Thanks,

Hello John, In answer to your second question, you might want to check out http://www.misosurvey.org/ Vassar joined the survey this year.
