Hi ITANA Content Management Working Group (CM WG) folks (and everyone else).

I thought Thursday's discussion was really great.   I loved the Personas work (see below).  I think that it represents an excellent example of the ITANA content management issue.  Really interesting framing work for the specific discussion.

  • It is important as a reference for the ITANA CM WG
  • Other Working Groups might want to refer to the Persona Analysis for ITANA to see what they should be posting where and to help form their communication and outreach plans.
  • The Persona effort is an interesting example of a "practice" or "artifact" that would be interesting to architects generally.
  • Visitors would like to know that architects do this kind of Persona analysis as part of their work and that it might be good for a variety of different projects on campus.
I was just thinking...

(1)  Opening Comments:  Congrats to Bob Morgan on his Internet2 President’s award.  Well deserved.

(2)  Jim Leous Penn State - What does Information Architecture mean?

  • Does IA include the metadata and the workflow?
  • How does this relate to data architecture?  Information is when you do something with Data.
  • According to Jim P:  Information Architecture is  how users find the information, how you present it in a meaningful way, how do you organize the information.  User Experience is larger than IA but does include it.
  • Data Architecture has to do with definition of data itself, what elements are included.

Here is an article that started me thinking about a Content Management Strategy for ITANA. http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2011/04/12/make-your-content-make-a-diff... We have many outlets for our content (Web Site, Wiki, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Google+, EDUCAUSE Site, email list, ... did I miss anything?) We a variety of content. We need a strategy for aligning the two. There is also this article which introduced me to the term ROT which I love. http://www.uxmatters.com/mt/archives/2009/08/content-analysis-a-practica... Hi All, I would like to talk through architectures and solutions for this use case during tomorrow's call. We have multiple Learning Management Systems (LMS) and other consumers of Course Roster information. Right now the LMSs come in and do complete course roster refreshes. That is, they grab all the course rosters data for all the courses that they host every four hours from a Web Service. They would like to move to a notification system where they would subscribe to a queue and be notified of when there are changes to rosters. If a roster they are interested in has been change, they would call the Web Service and get just that roster's data. This seems simple but as I've thought through it, the problem becomes a bit prickly. I would love to get all your feedback and input on this issue. Thanks, Jim ps. You know that any member can use the Thursday calls to vet a problem with their peers like this. Not just me. Just let me know if you want time on the agenda...

The SOA WG Skype calls The New2HE Google+ hangouts every 4th week on Tuesday at 11AM Eastern Time The Leading As an EA Google+ hangouts every 4th week on Tuesday at 11AM Eastern Time (the other Tuesday) The Enterprise Data Management and BI Working Group (TBD) The Face2Face 2012 Planning Google+ Hangouts (TBD) I'm looking for a calendar tool that would let each chair enter their meeting dates. Hi All, It is with deep sadness that I pass along the news that Bob Morgan passed away yesterday. R.L. Bob was a great partner in the founding of ITANA over five years ago. I worked with him frequently during my early years in higher education. He was a constant and pleasing presence at Internet2 and Common Solution Group meetings. He had a great perspective and insight into what makes the world of IT tick. We lost a good person, a great contributor, a father and friend. He will be missed by a great many people. I've been asked to look at developing a process to monitor and approve the acquisition of software (and eventually hardware) within our IT department. This should be lightweight enough that it doesn't swamp anyone involved but allow enough scrutiny to assure those with budgetary sign-off that they are approving spend on the appropriate things. This has the potential to be both useful and hugely divisive. I'm wary of an infinite tick-list. Who has something similar, and how does it look? Who has input to, and who owns, the decision? Has anyone actually developed Acquirer Views as suggested in TOGAF? Where there are "shrink to fit" processes, I'm particularly interested in what triggers are being used to move to the next level of scrutiny. I will, of course, summarise any responses to the list.
