The Access Technology Higher Education Network (ATHEN), in its continuing effort to assist higher education institutions ascertain the accessibility of the Google Apps suite, conducted accessibility evaluations on GMail and Google Calendar. The evaluations cover assistive technologies used for visual, mobility, learning, and cognitive disabilities. Many assistive technologies performed quite well in GMail and Calendar, but there were still significant hurdles for some technologies, particularly screen readers. The report may be read online at

http://athenpro.org/google-gmail-calendar-accessibility

ATHEN will continue its work by performing additional evaluations on other applications within the Google Apps suite.

Any questions or comments about this report can be directed to Greg Kraus (greg_kraus@ncsu.edu), Coordinator of the ATHEN Google Apps Accessibility Interest Group.

This is a new one detailing the accessibility of GMail and Google Calendar. The one last fall was on Google Docs.
