The notes from the group meeting at EDUCAUSE in Denver are below.  Please let me now if you have ideas

on how to involve more of our profession in the EDUCAUSE Constituent Group.  Thanks, Steve.

The Registrar and Admissions Officers Discussion Group discussed some of the history of

EDUCAUSE and CUMREC and the reduction of the registrar and admission officers in attendance

at the discussion group. It was mentioned that the implementation of ERP’s at many schools

required that registrars and admissions officers attend annual vendor conferences in addition to

AACRAO making it difficult for many of them to also attend EDUCAUSE. The group also

discussed that EDUCAUSE has become more of a technology oriented organization...

Hi Group,

Are you going to Educause?  Would you like to meet up?

Dr. Amy Goodburn and I are presenting at the annual Educause meeting in November on our work with Starfish.  We are wondering if anyone in the community would like to get together  for an hour to network.  UNL is a Starfish client, but we are interested in meeting with anyone who is involved in retention and student success activities on your campus.  So if you are planning on going to Denver, put this on your to-do list!

Feel free to message me off list if you are interested. I will also post another message here closer to the conference with any details. I am working on getting a space for us to meet. Maybe we can get a vendor to spurner us! :)

As part of the ongoing effort to involve the Registrars and Admissions professionals in the EDUCAUSE dialogue I am beginning a series of Friday Topics.  These topics hopefully will engage the group by sharing their experiences related to these topics.  Today  we want to hear your most challenging IT related issue?  Much of what we read is from an IT perspective.  I want to hear from the perspective of the person who is responsible for critical university management and operational activities.  Steve

With the thought that one thing keeping our 4-year graduation rate down is the schedule of courses, I’m considering embarking on an analysis of course offerings versus degree requirements.  This would involve running an audit of graduation requirements of current students, then comparing that with the course offerings for the next semester, looking at both which courses are offered and whether courses needed are offered at times that don’t conflict with each other.  Is this something others have tried?  Am I biting off a huge, insurmountable task?

I am writing to encourage the members of this group to help us become a more involved constituency in EDUCAUSE.  I am pleased to have been a member of this profession and to have observed the creativity and innovation that many of you have created and demanded to make our institutions more successful.  I encourage all members of our profession to use this group for the distribution of great technology ideas and for support as you encounter the considerable challenges we in higher education are managing each day.  If you have a unique idea please share it or if you have a question please ask it.  Your colleagues are very willing to assist with responses they feel are relevant.  EDUCAUSE can be made better by more involvement from our critical constituency and I am ready to assist in getting your thoughts the visibility they deserve.  I look forward to our interaction and I hope to see you at the annual...

Hello Educause members,

The College of Behavioral and Social Sciences at the University of Maryland runs a summer institute program that requires prospective participants to fill out an application package consisting of:

-Application form

-Person statement

-2 faculty recommendation letters (a form)

-Official college transcript

-Resume or CV

Currently, the intake process is all manual.  Applicants assemble their packages at their location and mail the documents to UMD.  The process is beginning to break down as the ever increasing volume of applications is straining the 2 resources assigned to this program (we received almost 500 applications this year).
