Hello,

We are on Luminis 5.04 and are planning to upgrade to 5.1. I would like to get your input on using the Luminis bundled CAS for all of our SSO.

I know some schools prefer using a standalone version of CAS. Any particular reason for this?

Do we need to set up another server for failover?

Any other thoughts or recommendations?

Thank you.

Artur,

My understanding is that Luminis is going away and is being replaced by Sharepoint/Ellucian Portal.

Is that your understanding as well?

If so, it might not make sense to invest in the Luminis bundled CAS.

For risk management, I would do a standalone CAS or CAS-in-the-cloud implementation. I would also do a multi-node CAS environment for high availability.

If you need some more specific direction on standalone CAS, let me know.

Hope that helps!

Phil (and all other Luminis Platform Customers),

We are sorry that there continues to be confusion around the roadmap and longevity of the Luminis Platform.  I want to respond to this thread to clarify once again.

The Luminis Platform is not going away.  To the contrary, Ellucian has signed a contract with Liferay, Inc. to include the Liferay Enterprise Edition, which offers a multitude of features and functionality over the Liferay Community Edition.  With the release of Luminis Platform 5.1 this past September and moving forward, Ellucian and Liferay, Inc. have entered into a new strategic partnership.  Liferay, Inc. now provides a second their of customer support, and provides support to and coordination with our development team.  We know that most Luminis Platform customers are very pleased with Ellucian's decision to embrace not only the Liferay portal, but Liferay Inc. and the Enterprise Edition.

Some Luminis Platform Customers have expressed interest in a SharePoint based portal integrated with Banner.  In the next month, Ellucian will release the Ellucian Portal (which is based on SharePoint) that will integrate with our Colleague and PowerCampus ERPs.  This will replace our Colleague Portal (based on SharePoint) and our PowerCampus Portal (based on SharePoint).  Our plan is to also have the Banner ERP write to those same APIs so that it too will integrate with the Ellucian Portal.  We know there are Banner ERP customers interested in purchasing the Ellucian Portal.  We also know there are Luminis Platform customers interested in switching over to use SharePoint.  Nevertheless, we expect the vast majority of Luminis Platform customer to stay with Liferay since it is so well respected as a technology, and especially given Ellucian new level of partnership with Liferay, Inc.

I hope this is helpful.

Regards,

Alan
