The Chessboard discussion has been very engaging.  Just prior to that  I volunteered to organize an above the campus discussion about shared support services.  Thus far 11 schools are participating.  I will be scheduling a Connect session to start off this discussion.  Anyone else interested in attending the kick-off online session?

Excellent ideas from Sue.

The idea of "above the institution" collaboration for IT support - specifically self-serve knowledge base and personal-touch Help Desk -- has tremendous potential, I think.  Both services and knowledge artifacts would have to be re-structured into a "general shared" and "institution specific" model (e.g., I can browse the general iPad information and then look at institution-specific additional info for my institution if it exists - or, even more integrated, if I log in from my institution certain content blocks are "general" and certain content blocks are my-institution-specific in a way that is transparent and seamless to me).  Regardless, this could be a transformative collaboration among several institutions where we could share resources and share expertise and even create "centers of excellence" for particular support needs among institutions in a consortium, with the benefits shared by all.  This sounds like a perfect application for a "consortial cloud" knowledge base and a shared-sourced help desk function.
