Everyday, I meet very passionate students and entrepreneurs that want to develop products and solutions around the university data (student information, courses, grades, advising, etc)  but unfortunately, we don't provide them with APIs that they can build their products around. So I was wondering if any of you have an experience with providing (students, startups, vendors) with API, and how do you manage and regulate access. I also would be interested to know what kind of technologies do use use and which systems is usually highly requested to be accessed.

If we couldn't find an interesting solution, and you are interested to join forces and develop this platform for the higher Ed community, please contact me:

ITANA, a peer EDUCAUSE CG, is starting a working group looking at SOA and API Management.  Many of the members are using the WS02 stack to manage their APIs.  Several have public API registries that allow for "community developers" to register and then build upon public data.

See our wiki for more information.

You might want to look through the responses to the start-up survey.  They are individual pages listed at the bottom of this page.

Let me know if you have questions.
