Friends,

Years ago, the strategy seemed to be to create a process where Higher Education could transmit transcripts between university’s electronically.   How widespread is that effort or has it fallen flat.

We are examining a solution which would allow us to scan all incoming transcripts, and the proposed system would OCR the transcript, and discern through configuration scripts, which areas of the transcript hold course information, and encode that into a system which can be inputted into our SIS.  Does anyone have a similar solution.  Is there a vendor which has this solution figured out well?

Has anyone been able to go to primarily Electronic Transcripts?  If not, then where did we as an industry fall short?

DP,

In Texas, a lot of the public higher education institutions use a system set up by the University of Texas called SPEEDE (http://registrar.utexas.,edu/speede/) to exchange electronic transcripts.  I don't know the volume or how well it works at our College.

They are also working on a system to handle incoming high school transcripts as well.
