Hi all, We have a unique, or not, situation in which our SIS (Banner) needs to be integrated with two LMS, BlackBoard Learn and Desire2Learn. Has this been done in any of your institutions before? We need some advice. Best regards, Reem I. Texas Tech University System is in the process of doing this right now. Please contact me and I'll get you in touch with appropriate staff. Kay.rhodes@ttu.edu. Sent from my iPhone Kay Rhodes
One of the things we have done is always keep our LMS integration separate from the ERP.

We link our ERP to our Identity Management System (IDMS) and manage all the course enrollments between those two. We then have the IDMS update whatever systems (e.g. LMS, etc.) need course enrollments (LMS, door access, email listservs, etc.).

This was done because we didn't want to be worried about tying ourselves to vendor requirements of doing this from ERP to SIS. I don't know if this is the right approach for all schools but it has given us a level of agility to add new systems to our course enrollments very effectively.

We are in the process of moving to the grouper software and hope to use this to integrate other services such as Google groups and hopefully some day the box.com service.  This way a course unit is the same on all systems.

It would seem to me that with all the activity occurring in the EDTech sector that we will see many new services coming online in the next few years and having the agility to quickly add new services is a key component in your organizations future success.

Hi Reem-

This is one of the scenarios we had envisioned for the new IMS Learning Information Services (LIS) interoperability standards - which provides an industry standard for exchanging information between student systems and learning platforms. The specification is posted here:

We would need to discuss of list.  The conformance certifications are just beginning now and the IMS technical people would need to work closely with you and the suppliers.  Ellucian, D2L and Blackboard have all been deeply involved in LIS.

Happy to help if we can.

Best,
Rob
