I want to thank those of you who completed the CIO or technology leader surveys in 2012. I will be able to send a complimentary copy of a report to those who completed a survey. If you completed the CIO survey you will receive that report in mid-June or if you completed the TL survey you will receive that report in mid-June. In addition, I'm working with EDUCAUSE to give ECAR subscribers complimentary access to both reports. Thank you again for your help. I couldn't complete this important work without you.

If you would like to join my webinar presentation of the CIO and TL results you can preorder a copy of a report here and the webinar is complimentary. For those receiving a complimentary report please order the report you won't receive (TL report for CIOs and CIO report for TLs).

As a reminder, CHECS is a 501(c)3 nonprofit and no one associated with the organization takes a salary. All funds raised through sponsorships or reports sales are used to conduct the research. Any excess funds are donated to one of three endowed scholarships in IT management.

Finally, I want to thank EDUCAUSE, specifically Greg Jackson, Susan Grajek, Pam Arroway, and Toby Sitko for their help with the 2012 surveys and reports.  It is great working with them and I look forward to increased collaboration in the future.

Hi All,


We have been primarily a Cold Fusion and Oracle application development environment. Over the years, some other programming languages and databases have been used and crept in – PHP, .NET, MS SQL, MySQL, and Java. Recently our programming staff has explored using Grails as a development framework. I just wanted to see what others may have standardized on for an application development environment, may be exploring or using, pros & cons, etc. Let me know. Thanks,
