Greetings, all!  We have a Liebert data center cooling system with a humidifier that works by trickling water into a pan and evaporating the water with high intensity lamps.  After a while, the pan and its drain become encrusted with brown deposits that are very difficult to clean out.  Has anyone fixed a problem like this by adding filtration or some other treatment to the supply line?

Thanks!

Charlie

I talked with a friend of mine whose university data center had the same problem.

He suggested a short-term fix: just use Lime Away – it should clean up the pan. The real problem is getting a long term fix.

His guess is that your water supply is the real problem and that the inside of your Liebert has the same problem as the pan. The efficiency of the unit can slowly drop until it fails. He suggested having Liebert come in and check out the unit. Liebert units have to be regularly maintained and many times it seems like they run without maintenance, so people cancel maintenance contracts.

His large data center hadn’t done any maintenance in years, and it cost him a small fortune to get it fixed. Liebert should be able to diagnose the real problem and head you to someone who can help solve your water supply problem.

That was his suggestion! Good luck!
