Does your LMS display images of your students in each class?

Do these come from your ID system?

Do you have issues with students not wanting their image used and how do you deal with that?

We are displaying pictures on our class rosters in PeopleSoft. We have not decided whether to also display them in the LMS.  We’re using ID card photos. We are viewing the picture as just another piece of data and it is not out in the open. BTW,  we also created a page for University Police that pulls together contact information, class schedule and picture on one page. It is searchable by all phone numbers (even partial) , email addresses, and the student ID number.

Yes, Yes, and we have designated id photos as directory information.  Only users inside the college net can see the photos.  We give students the option of replacing the id photo with another acceptable photo... we give them a window, and review any changes (to avoid pictures of giraffes, etc.), then lock it up.

Good luck.

Our policy for displaying photos on our ERP screens is at:
http://www.svsu.edu/its/not-in-menu/policies/photo-access-privacy.html

We do not auto-load photos into our LMS.

Does your LMS display images of your students in each class? Our LMS systems currently do not display images of students unless the student upload their own images. We have just launched PDF photo rosters for faculty through their Faculty Centers (Oracle/PeopleSoft). This photo roster service can be utilized within the LMS as well, and those discussions are under way. An individual student photo service is under development as well. The premise behind these photo services is to store the images in one location and utilize web services to deliver a URI for either a PDF full class photo roster or an individual photo to applications desiring to display the image (but not store it). Do these come from your ID system? The student photos come from our Wiscard Id System. We merged the door access card with the campus id card and created the Wiscard in June 2008; photos have been stored since that time, otherwise they were not stored. Do you have issues with students not wanting their image used and how do you deal with that? Not yet because we just launched photo rosters for this Spring 2012 semester, but I am sure we will. Student photos are classified as private, non-directory information and are to be used for educational purposes only. We anticipate that students will desire faculty photos to be displayed in the Schedule of Classes or our Course Guide. What Lee wrote sounds like what we do.

We have a directory w/ photos of faculty, staff and students as part of our portal, so only authenticated users can see it. (There's one w/out photos on the public website).

The photo is from the ID card system (which people are told in writing when they get photos taken), they can come to the student lab to have a consultant take a replacement photo, and they can choose to have an anonymous silhouette shown instead of either of those photos. And yes, we have defined the photo as part of directory information, and we do not include any info for students who have elected confidentiality under FERPA in either the public or portal online directories.

We have just migrated to Moodle and haven't yet modified the Profile in it, so people can upload what they wish.
