Is anyone on this list in the process of implementing or running the admissions software from Ellucian (Datatel), Recruiter?

Under the theory that misery loves miserable company I'd like to know where you are in the process of implementation and how it is going for you?  Perhaps a users group could be developed if there are a few of us involved in this effort to implement Recruiter.

We have been a Datatel Colleague, now Ellucian Colleague, site since 1995.  We have implemented and upgraded and been a part of all things Datatel with a dedicated staff of 8 supporting the system. Over promising and under delivering is the briefest way to put our experience moving from Recruitment Plus (College Board) to Recruiter. Having begun this process intensely since May with the "test system" we are now about 3 months behind the schedule developed for us by Ellucian.  Most of the delays are in the slowness of Ellucian training and support.  It seems apparent that they sold more systems than they can support.  Their deficiency is now our liability and our cost.

If you can put me in touch with your primary project manager  at your site we may be able to generate some collaborative support.

Thank you.

Oh, dear.....For those of us who purchased Ellucian Banner Relationship Manager, only to be told that it is moving to something else (Banner Communications Manager) and the product we really have to move to get the functionality we wanted is Recruiter -

Oh, dear, your message was distressing.

The ERP situation is such that we've reviewed the status with our campus Risk Management Council.

Theresa

Theresa, I am curious regarding your comment on the ERP situation and risk management, what do you mean by "ERP situation is such"?

Chuck,

We are on our third year as a Colleague client.  We intend to go-live with Recruiter by January 2013.
That is five months overdue.  The delay in our go-live was due to mix causes.  Re-org, new staff in SS,
et. al.  As the project coordinator, the technical part was the simplest hurdle.  I do agree that Recruiter
resources became scarce (Texas ) and this caused multiple delays.

Test and production has been complete for three months.  We just need to train, retrain new staff.
I am interested in a collaborative effort.

Thanks,

Any time businesses with whom the university has relationships change business models (i.e., the new Ellucian), we do a deep review on risk potential.  In this case, we thought it was reasonable to expect changes, such as product consolidation.  This is now what we are seeing.  We invested in the purchase of Banner Relationship Manager just at the end of 2011.  We don't have it all implemented yet.  This is now shifting to a split solution:  Banner Communications Management and Recruiter.  While Ellucian has said they will continue major support of BRM, enhancements and such will not be delivered as promised at the time of product purchase; they will avoid selling the product as BRM.  We expect other items in the product portfolio to consolidate.

Theresa

Theresa, Thanks for the clarification.  We are in total agreement. I also think there is a big difference between "Communication Management" and "Relationship Management".  Not the same thing in my mind at all.  I was not enamored with the name change for the product.

Chuck, We've been a Recruiter client for almost two years. Our experience seems very similar to yours. I'd be very interested in developing/joining a support group. I can't tell you how many times we've run into a problem and thought "how can this not be negatively impacting all Recruiter clients?". Thanks, Mike Michael Hoffman Executive Director for Information Technology St. Bonaventure University ________________________________________
We have been live on Recruiter for one year. Our implementation has been nothing but difficult with one problem after another. We have tried to use the Ellucian (Datatel) User Forum to find out if others are having the same issues but that particular forum is like a ghost town. We would be very interested in joining a support group. One of our programmers suggested we could use a Facebook group to keep in touch. Good morning, We are in the process of cutting over into Production from a 'Cloud' perspective recruiter. We to have had some challenges but, our PMO group has been actively managing the project. We have immediate identified as part of the follow-up that R&R's between Ellucian, Data Dimension (they bought OpSource) and the University need to be revisited. We also need to complete a DR test prior to project close out. We would be interested in participating and sharing experiences/knowledge. Wm. Kenneth Freeman Wm. Here at Emporia State, we're looking at Recruiter, but from the perspective of a current Banner customer (for about 7 years). We've been running BRM (Banner Recruitment Module) in our Graduate Admissions office for more than a year. As Theresa noted, the anticipated consolidation / merging of product lines seems to be beginning, and with the BRM / Recruiter platform(s). If you are a Banner customer you likely heard the initial rumor that Ellucian was no longer going to support BRM. This appears to not be "the whole story", as they are going to pull BRM (currently viewed as a module) into baseline Banner and rename it Banner Communication Management (BCM). Presumably they will continue to develop it, but focus on lifecycle communication in support of retention and less on recruitment. If you want full-featured recruitment support, you have the option of moving to Recruiter - the Datatel product. The "deal" is that you get Recruiter for no charge (and keep BCM as part of baseline). If you choose NOT to move to Recruiter, you'll see a 20% discount in maintenance costs. We purchased BRM to support our recruitment and retention activities, so we are now faced with the possibility of implementing / moving to Recruiter in order to have the most robust functionality (offered by Ellucian) that integrates with our Banner system. We'll be looking at the functionality of Recruiter as well as the direct and indirect costs over the next few months. I appreciate the comments from the current Recruiter customers and those currently involved in implementation (especially since they have alluded to some "issues") - but I'd also like to interact with institutions that are current Banner/BRM users that are considering Recruiter. I understand there is a "Recruiter Briefing Room" at EDUCAUSE as well as some sessions (unclear as to where yet) specifically for BRM customers that are wanting to know more about the roadmap / Recruiter. Perhaps those going to EDUCAUSE could coordinate a time to meet and discuss in the CIO lounge (or other location, since some folks with good information to offer up may not be the CIO's)? -Mike ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Michael D. Mike,
I think your suggestion about finding time to share information at Educause is an excellent one. We at Lehigh are in the same situation as Emporia, and I imagine there are plenty of others also contemplating their direction given this upcoming change.

There are a few open time slots on the CIO Open Space discussion schedule. I've put together a Doodle poll to identify people that may be interested in this topic and a time slot that may work for all of us.

If anyone else is interested in meeting regarding this topic, please fill out the poll to indicate your preferred time at: http://www.doodle.com/tqfa2nwzrqnpygrn

Thank you to everyone for this very timely topic. I look forward to exploring this issue further.

Spelman College is positioning to install and implement Recruiter and not without challenges.  We are in the initial stages of requiring ellucian services minus a project manager.  Our Enrollment Management office will use their own PM. I too will be VERY interested in hearing the experiences of others and strongly agree with the suggestion to form a User's Group.

Everyone,

It has been suggested that we use the Community and Constituent Group Lounge (rooms 610-612) for this discussion. This provides us with additional times that may work better for all of us trying to to be at multiple places at the same time.

I have added the following times to the Doodle poll:
Wednesday 12:30 - 1:30 PM and 4:30 - 5:30 PM
Thursday 11:30 AM - 12:30

If you have already submitted your time preferences to the poll and wish to update your availability, please reply to me directly and I will update your information in the poll. Hopefully these additional times  will allow others to join us as well.

By Wednesday 10/31 I will send out an additional email to the list letting everyone know the time that was selected. When I arrive at the conference I will also put this topic on the scheduling board outside the room to "claim" that time for our topic.

Thanks to all who have expressed interest thus far. I'm looking forward to hearing everyone's perspective.

Regards,
Sherri

I just wanted to post a note to the community to let you know we are aware of the difficulties with some Recruiter implementations. We did not expect the pace of Recruiter adoption to be so quick. And as a consequence, we were not as prepared as we needed to be for the number of institutions embarking on implementations. We have made significant updates to the implementation approach based on feedback from the community and are in the process of rolling those out. We also continue to make significant investments in our development, services and support organizations to respond to the needs of the community and increase our capacity. We are committed to working closely with each of you on a successful implementation and continue to receive positive feedback on the power and capability of the solution. I would be happy to meet at Educause or at a later time to hear your thoughts and capture more input on how we can better support you.
