Hi All

I am still waiting to be accepted into the North America Google Apps group which is where I hear a lot of Google Apps for EDU discussion is taking place. While I wait for that...

I read: http://googleappsupdates.blogspot.com/2012/11/google-available-for-education-and-new.html It is not clear to me whether this now means Google+ has been made into a Google Apps for Education application (and not just the consumer app). It is confusing because it also talks about the Premium. Thanks in Advance.

Hello,

Google+ can be turned on as a consumer service within the Google Apps space.   Here is a link to more info about the options:

http://support.google.com/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=2677443

I would like to invite Google Apps users to join the EDUCAUSE Google Apps constituent group where these types of topics are discussed:

Best,

Wendy

Ravi,

Understandable….at the Google Apps CG meeting that was held during the EDUCAUSE conference Google said that they are hearing that educational institutions would like Google+ to be part of the base Google Apps service but at this time they do not have a timeframe for doing so.  They mentioned that the premium version of Google+ is available for a “free preview” within a domain until the end of the calendar year.  At that point I would surmise that there will be a fee structure in place if those who have enabled the premium service wish to continue to use it.    The premium service does seem to give enhanced content control to domain administrators.

I am confident that your voice would be most welcome as fellow Apps users continue to advocate for the inclusion of Google+ in the base service.

I hope this is helpful.

Best,

Wendy

Thanks. We have it turned on as a consumer app. There are folks who want to use it for their class and this poses a problem. This is why I am interested in it moving to Apps for EDU.

I am a member of the EDUCAUSE group, but it does not appear to be too active, so some of my colleagues suggested that I join the North America one.

Thanks Wendy. I was a panelist along with Lev Gonick from Case Western, David Ackerman from NYU and Rick Matthews from Wake Forest in the Google booth at EDUCAUSE and stressed what you said below. I was so naive that I believed that our voices were heard and Google moved it to Apps!

Hi All,

I thought my sys admin told me today that Google+ was added to Google Apps for Education for us today.  There was a Nercomp virtual webinar held the other day - in that someone said that Google+ would be added to Google Apps for Education in December...

I mentioned this the other day to my sys admin so he was surprised to see Google+ added to us today already.  Google+ was added to Google Apps for Business already.

It looks like we already had blogger.

I have not done much with this (Google+ yet.

Glad to know there is a North America Google Apps group - we'll check into joining that - or at least trying to join that group.

Best,

Janice

As far as I know, Google+ was available to us weeks ago and we just didn't turn it on.
I think it's been around since late September(?) in the .edu edition.

Wendy,

Just a point of clarification.  The premium version of Google+ is available as a “free preview” through the end of the 2013 calendar year.

We’ve been using Google+ with the premium features turned on for a few months now and a number of faculty and students have begun integrating it into their coursework.  Thus far, the premium services have not been required or utilized.  Given the direction Google has taken with Google+ and integration into the other core apps services, I think we’ll find that Google+ will make its way into the core in due course.
