Colleagues,

For those who have deployed, or are planning to deploy, Office 365 email, do any of you also offer Gmail to your users?  If so, how do you offer these services e.g. do you give your students a choice to either go one way or the other?  What's your approach for faculty and staff?

At Oregon State University, we recently implemented Google Apps and Gmail for students.  Like many large universities though, the needs are diverse.  I'm collecting info on approaches and would be happy to share my findings with others who are interested.

Thanks,
Scott

At UAlbany, our approach was to implement a single system for everyone; we went with Live@edu in 2010, now O365. It’s working well.

Hi

We have recently migrated our students to Google Apps for Education and are in the early stages of migrating our faculty, staff, alumni and retirees to Google Apps also.  After comparing both packages, we found the combination of collaborative tools and integration with many applications made Google the best choice FIT.

So far students love the capabilities.  We are building training and communication strategies for the remainder of the community.

Georgia Southern University migrated 20,000 students and 3,000 faculty and staff to Google Apps several years ago. 65% of the population already used Google in some way. It has worked out very well for us.

West Liberty University migrated 2800 students and 350 faculty and staff to Google Apps in early 2008. This was a very good fit for our institution.
