Greetings all,

We have a request from our School of Engineering and IT (SEIT) for a research collaboration tool to allow academics to work collaboratively with national and international counterparts.

The tool they are after should have Wiki facilities to entering and sharing data and experimental details, blog or another web-based user friendly publishing method to share material with collaborators.

It should also have the ability to allow public access to certain areas without the need to register, while granting access to other areas would require some sort of registration – academics would manage registration and access rights and to store different file formats, equations, including but not limited to, PDF, Word docs, Excel spreadsheet, audio/video (mpeg, MOV, AVI, etc). Use of open format would be a must.

Although initiated by our School of Engineering and IT, such tool, if proved successful, would be shared across our whole campus.

Have you deployed a similar solution to your researchers in your organisation? If so, would you be able to share your experience with the product(s) you have used?

Thank you in advance,

Regards,

Comments

You might take a look at two components

1. CoMANAGE - this is a tool developed by the internet2 community to provide virtual organizations (multi-institutional research groups) collaboration tools.

The challenge is authentication from any party. Look at the social2saml work to bridge social identities for this.

Be glad to talk to you privately.
