IU is hosting SPSS on XenApp for delivery to all students at Indiana University. The overall response is quite positive from the students and faculty who have used the application. There are many ways to deliver the application via XenApp. Our methodology hosts or presents SPPS from the IU Data Center. This is different from using XenApp to stream the entire application to the client. This allows SPSS to be launched on almost any device such as PC, Mac, Android, iOs or Linux. This is a relatively new service and one area we are currently focusing on is the delivery and processing of large datasets. We are testing several configurations to optimize access to storage for process data inside SPPS from the hosted environment. If you would like to talk w someone about this, let me know. Sue Sue B. Hi Sue, This is interesting to know.We have students and faculty using SPSS but the installation is local to the machine. How does the licensing work out when its hosted on xenapp. Thanks. -Wasi Sr. Support Tech, ITS Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, ________________________________________ From: The EDUCAUSE CIO Constituent Group Listserv [CIO@LISTSERV.EDUCAUSE.EDU] on behalf of Workman, Sue B [sbworkma@IU.EDU] Sent: Tuesday, February 28, 2012 7:44 PM To: CIO@LISTSERV.EDUCAUSE.EDU Subject: Re: [CIO] SPSS using Xen App IU is hosting SPSS on XenApp for delivery to all students at Indiana University. Right now, we have an enterprise license for SPSS, so everyone is covered and we have permission to virtually distribute. That in itself was step 1 w IBM.They were going to charge us again. Similar at Oswego.  Actually, we were smart enough (lucky enough really) to purchase a perpetual enterprise license before the IBM acquisition.  This has simplified many things.

VCU is delivering SPSS using XenApps for our students (and some faculty).  It is working well.  We had a problem with usage reporting, but recently got a patch from IBM that resolved the problem.  If you need details, I would be glad to put you in touch with the right person -- who is not me!
