Transgender issues and ERP
Hi Tom --
Good question! It prompted me to find out how we have been handling this at CCA. As you know, we are also an Ellucian Colleague school. Like OSU, CCA has a very clear and articulated commitment to diversity. Our Administrative computing team has worked with the Registrar to remove the gender from the transcript and create a 'nickname' field that the class rosters pull from. Not all reports pull from this nickname field but students are told of this up front. Having the roster show the nickname makes the classroom experience easier for student and faculty. One challenge we discovered in this process is that this nickname change affects the names on the checks and that those students can not then cash checks easily, so we are looking further into this issue. The legal names have to stay on their record until official documentation proves a name change. This is due to federal reporting needs.
Let me know if your folks want to talk with the AIS team here regarding how they approached this inside of Colleague.
