Hello, For comment/ discussion I'd like to introduce the term "data steward" to replace the term "data owner". Data steward, to be defined as: University officials whose job responsibilities include maintaining the quality and integrity of data maintained in University systems. Why? Because data owners may or may not be inclined to share 'their' data. The word 'owner' is loaded in favor of limiting access and treating departmental data as if it were personal data and off-limits to people outside that department. Whereas steward implies that the person is working within a larger context. Mike

Comments

Frequently there will be a discussion of someone with Custodial responsibilities and someone with Stewardship responsibilities and a clear statement that the college/university is the data owner. Gerry
