Hello, everyone.

We at UNO are putting together our case for funding a BI reporting app.  (We have not yet decide which app, but we’re looking at several.)

Can anyone point me to evidence we could use?  Especially good written pieces about the utility and value of these software packages in higher education institutions?  Survey results?

Thank you in advance for considering my question.

Do you folks have the budget to purchase a reporting tool?  They are expensive.

Hello, For comment/ discussion I'd like to introduce the term "data steward" to replace the term "data owner". Data steward, to be defined as: University officials whose job responsibilities include maintaining the quality and integrity of data maintained in University systems. Why? Because data owners may or may not be inclined to share 'their' data. The word 'owner' is loaded in favor of limiting access and treating departmental data as if it were personal data and off-limits to people outside that department. Whereas steward implies that the person is working within a larger context. Mike

If this is the CG for Analytics, Business Intelligence is a new aspect of my position and I am hoping to get more information (like that shared in the Analytics Sprint) at the EDUCAUSE conferences. Is anyone presenting in Denver? The next proposal deadline coming up is August 28, for WSWRC. That regional conference includes a newly expanded, dynamic online track, so we can participate without incurring travel expenses. http://www.educause.edu/west-southwest-regional-conference Thanks in advance for sharing your analytics or business intelligence experience at the conferences, Carlyn Chatfield Manager, IT Technical Communications Rice University Houston, Texas 77005 713.348.4819 ********** Participation and subscription information for this EDUCAUSE Constituent Group discussion list can be found at...

Hello all,

I have a rather interesting question for the group and, please, no one laugh. At Princeton, we have always (since the 1700s) secured our financial data to a specific project grant, rather than at a higher level, such as by department. Now, we’re redoing our Chart of Accounts and people are asking, “Why are we securing things so tightly?” (amen). I do recognize that different rules exist between the publics and the privates and that is certainly an influence.

So, I ask the group if any of you are aware of any document or other reference that might begin to shed some light on this question. Everything I’ve found answers the more obvious question of what are the costs of not securing your data enough.  And, if by chance, you’ve encountered this at your campus, please let me know as...
