Hello IT Communicators,
OU is considering implementing a site where students, faculty and staff can share ideas, innovate and be creative to help solve problems on campus and improve the university. Currently, we are looking at two providers of this service SalesForce (example
site is http://mystarbucksidea.force.com/) and IdeaScale (http://ideascale.com/). Has anyone implemented something like this on their campus? Have any of you used either of
these two providers? I would really appreciate any feedback you all have.
Thank you!

I really like Uservoice.com – allows for voting/promoting ideas so the community can choose the hot topics. Very easy to implement and administer. We have not implemented this – but I have used it in other capacities and like it quite a bit for creating a list of tasks focused on what is most important.
As H. Ford said however “If I asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.”

If the trend to use "idea generation-vote-evaluation" processes is new to you, Andrea Martin incorporated it in our pre-conference seminar in Denver (Crowdsourcing the value of IT)

We are not using crowdsourcing at Rice at this point, but the 2.5 hour seminar takes you through the process in 5 different scenarios - if you want to experience how it works first hand.
Good luck, Becky! This would be an interesting coffeeshop topic in the future after you've implemented your solution.

We used Salesforce for our internal IT department Idea Jam a few years ago and had very good success. Our participation rates were very high. It wasn't cheap but was an effective tool for encouraging feedback and voting on ideas.
Our Student Government Association uses IdeaScale which is published on their website.
