I am a retired communications officer at the University of Georgia, and I think it is great that your institution is hiring a communications specialist.

 

I have a document (Communications Chain Management, attached) that might be of interest to you regarding your hiring process. If you can persuade your new hire, and his and your superiors to think along these lines, I believe you will do quite well.

 

I can flesh the CCM concept out, if you like.

Thanks for the document!   I read it over and it makes good sense from a traditional communications model point of view.  

Have you considered modifying the model to accommodate the growth of Social Media Marketing where you use the interactions of your customers to each other as a means of strategic message dissemination and building relationships?   This is an aspect where I think we're all a little stuck conceptually in the last decade…

Most welcome. Regarding social media,  my "fleshed out" strategic plan (which has a University of Georgia perspective, but adaptable to other environments) accommodates social media and emerging communications venues. The idea is to be venue agnostic and strive for good message development and planning to exercise communications venues as required.

Bert, this would be a great resource to refer back to after our summer chaos settles down.  Can you publish in our wiki?
