Good morning ITCOMM! I want to show off the online annual report my team recently completed. http://it.tamu.edu/annualreport/ We pushed ourselves to make this site accessible on a variety of browsers and devices, but you will get the best experience if you view it in something other than IE. :) Our goal was to have visitors get a quick overview of our accomplishments after only a few minutes of using the site, but be able to dive deeper into the stories that interested them. We also used infographics again this year to bring clarity to often complex IT stories. We created a small print piece highlighting the top story from each category and mailed this to our top campus administration and our CIO's colleagues across the Texas A&M System and state. The print piece was designed to drive traffic to the website and accompanied by a few strategic emails has driven over 550 visitors to the site. Please let me know what you think. We're always trying to create more a more effective report and covet any suggestions from this group of IT communicators! This is really slick! Any specific tool used to create this? Kevin
Very nice, Allison!

I especially like that the report is delivered online, but can also be delivered in print (to those select folks).

Can you share the software/tool you used?  And, was this your effort alone, or did you enlist a team?

Good job.  Thanks so much for sharing.

Allison, I agree - it is very slick AND fabulous. Can you share the skillsets that were involved in creating this - were they all within your team, or do you "farm out" design components? How large is your team, etc. I guess I'm reviewing this and wondering how many people, how many hours it takes to make this type of production a reality. Definitely something to aspire to.
Allison -

Super job! I like the clean, friendly look and feel. Your goal of providing a quick overview that allows individuals to learn more, if they choose to, is well executed.

Kudos!

Good morning ITCOMM!

Allison, I'm a fan too! I'm wondering why the home page of the site defies pinching on my iPhone 4S, but all the other site pages are compliant? Curious…. Thank you all for the compliments! Rick, the site was working on my iPhone 4 a few weeks ago, but you're right that the home page is being uncooperative now. We're taking a look! This project was a joint effort from many members of my team. I'm lucky to have two web developers, two graphic designers and two communication coordinators on my team. This project involved most of them. We did all the work from the writing, design and animation to the web development. The project begins in the fall with interviews and writing, moves on to graphic design and ends with the site creation and coding. Based on hours worked on our past reports I would estimate around 500 hours total for my entire team. Yes I know this is a lot, but after four years we have not found a way to shorten the amount of work and still get the end results we want. I'm following up with my technical guys to get a list of the tools they used. I'll share this with the list shortly. Thanks again! Allison

I've double checked my details with my team for accuracy. The entire annual report is comprised of HTML pages with Jquery javascript library and HTML5 for the animation and interaction. The program we used to create HTML5 animations on the cover and infographics is Tumult Hype (http://tumultco.com/hype/). This tool allowed us to utilize HTML5 and CSS properties to create animations for cross-browser and cross-platform compatibility. The design and illustrations were created in InDesign and Illustrator, with photo editing in Photoshop. Hope this helps. And again, thanks for the review. Allison
