IT Communicators, We have two virtual coffee shop opportunities this month. Our regularly scheduled coffee shop, on the second Friday of each month, falls this week, Friday, January 11, at 11AM Central. Creighton University's Steve Riedl will be talking about Multidirectional Data Flow in Higher Education (tying all our data together - warehouse, departments, big data, institutional, etc). This topic is of interest to those of us who see communications about analytics and data initiatives on the horizon or already in our spheres of responsibility. His presentation will last about 30 minutes and we'll have general topic discussion following his Q&A time. Later this month, we have a special international coffee shop session. International coffee shops target different times, usually mid-afternoon or early morning (Central) to give our global colleagues an opportunity to participate. At 2pm on Thursday, January 24, a panel of IT Communicators will be talking about how they handle communications with regard to outages and other unwelcome news. See you in the coffee shop(s)! http://www.educause.edu/wiki/virtual-coffee-shop Carlyn Chatfield Manager, IT Technical Communications Rice University Houston, Texas 77005 713.348.4819 ********** Participation and subscription information for this EDUCAUSE Constituent Group discussion list can be found at http://www.educause.edu/groups/.

Dear Carlyn and Committee, Thank you so very much for for setting up these coffee houses. Would the coffee house on January 24 about "IT Communication for outages and other unwelcome news" be able to be recorded? I am really interested in the topic but will not be able to attend. Best regards, Dawn M. Sadler Manager, IT Training and Communication TCS Education System 350 N. Orleans, Suite 1050 Chicago, IL  60654 (W)  312-467-2431 (M)  312-659-3749
To build off of Dawn's question, is Friday's session going to be recorded? This kind of data initiative is something we're extremely interested in getting into this semester. Even just an audio recording to go along with the notes on the wiki would be very appreciated. I'm doing my best to get out of a scheduling conflict to attend, but even if I can attend, it would be nice to share the audio with coworkers. -- Brian Mertz Chief Communications Officer Campus Information Technologies and Informational Services (CITES) University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign bmertz@illinois.edu twitter.com/cites On 1/8/13 8:53 AM, "Dawn Sadler" wrote: >Dear Carlyn and Committee, > >Thank you so very much for for setting up these coffee houses. > >Would the coffee house on January 24 about "IT Communication for outages >and other unwelcome news" be able to be recorded? Let me check with Educause. We have never recorded a session before. In the early coffee shops, the audio via Adobe Connect was not good quality so we switched to audio via phone lines. I'll ask if the conference phone line has a recording capability. Regardless of the recording, the slides and the notes from the session will be posted in the wiki shortly after the session. Carlyn & others,
I run the Project Management CG online meetings and we regularly record our monthly meetings through Connect. even though the audio is telephone-based, the recording capability works fine.

Happy to provide more details if needed...

Just adding to that, I know on our university Connect service, there's a way to add the phone bridge as a resource to the meeting room and this integrates the phone audio nicely. Hopefully someone at EDUCUAUSE knows how to do that. If not, perhaps I could work with Carlyn or someone else outside of the coffee shop hours and see if the method I'm familiar with is available on the EDUCAUSE hosted Connect service.
