Colleagues, I'm writing to ask for your support of and participation in the 2014 CIO and Tech Leader Research conducted by the Center for Higher Education Chief Information Officer (CIO) Studies (CHECS). Surveys were recently sent out by Dr. Wayne Brown, CEO of CHECS. If you did not get a survey and would like to participate please send him an email at wbrown@checs.org. As Chair of the CHECS Advisory Board, I greatly appreciate your support and encourage you to participate in this longitudinal research. We are partnering with EDUCAUSE and all ECAR members will receive a complimentary copy of the reports. Additionally, all survey participants will be entitled to a 50 percent discount on all CHECS (www.checs.org) reports. The CIO and Tech Leader reports are projected to be completed in June 2014. The CIO study provides information about higher education CIOs' attributes, education, experience and effectiveness. The Technology Leadership (TL) study invites participation from those in the next organizational layer down from the CIO and examines the demographics of the TL, where they have worked, and the activities they are undertaking to prepare themselves to become CIOs. If you are not familiar with the CHECS research, please check out our website (www.checs.org) for more. Findings from both studies have been published in industry-related publications, such as the Chronicle for Higher Education, Campus Technology, CIO, Public CIO, EDUCAUSE Quarterly and Review and Gartner. The CIO study has been conducted since 2003 and the Technology Leader study has been conducted since 2009. Thanks in advance. Your participation greatly aids our efforts and enhances our ability to further our mission to educate and develop future higher education CIOs. - Mac - Keith W.
