Robert,
I agree with Christopher on features. I’m a big fan of Aerohive since selecting it for Gann Academy for both features and cost, however I always compare products. I’ve completed two rounds of comparisons in the last couple of years looking at multiple vendors. We just selected Aerohive for Xaverian Brothers High School. We found that a rip and replace is cheaper than adding more Aruba with the capacity and redundancy that we need.

Hi Robert,
We went through a wifi equipment changover last year, from Sonicwall to Ruckus. We evaluated Aruba but felt it had features and network topology restrictions that we didn’t need or weren’t willing to pay for. In the end, we chose Ruckus due to its self-signup feature (users sign on to a webpage, and the system generates dynamic preshared keys on a per-device level, and configures devices/phones to join the network via scripts), easy to use management interface, distributed architecture, and very robust performance for the price point. Their antenna technology also enabled us to minimize the number of access points compared to our previous setup, and to what other vendors recommended.

Thanks for your responses Christopher and Linda. Our current system uses HP WESM controllers and it has some of the features mentioned. HP has stopped enhancing this system and won't support 802.11N. I assume all new development is going into the technology purchased when they acquired Colubris. One thing that has been nice about this system is low maintenance costs. It is interesting to see the range of ongoing costs from different vendors.
