Hi Mary,

I would suggest not that you ask specific questions, but that you ask your teachers to demonstrate what they have learned of their iPads by use of their iPads. Ask them to produce evidence of their learning in a medium of their choice: video, audio, writing, drawing, etc... The question can be open-ended, such as: "Please demonstrate the value you have found in the iPad as a learning tool." This process will assess what they have learned (in terms of how they and/or their students might use the iPad as a learning tool) far better than answering any pointed questions.

That's my take on it, anyway.

We were also assessing various devices this year including iPads.  Like Jeremy, we didn't have a checklist, but asked the teachers to evaluate them in two ways: as an instructional tool used by the teachers, and how the students would use them in class.  The answer was actually rather different for these items.  For each of these we asked them to be specific about what they would use (apps, applications, Web 2.0 tools).  One trustee suggested that they explain what they can't do now without them.

Friends,

We have issued 5 iPads to a chosen 5 teachers earlier this year and would now like to ask them to assess their use of the device - as applicable for educational use.

Do any of you have such an assessment that I could use as a basis for creating ours?  O,r a recommended list of questions that I should include in one?

Thanks!

Mary
