SkyDrive free email addresses
I'm hoping to ping Carolynn specifically on this because I remember her saying at edACCESS 2013 that her students will be using both Skydrive Pro (as part of a 365 contract) and SkyDrive free/personal accounts. I recollect that the former for school work and the latter for whatever else they want to backup, which is a clever idea, by the way.********** Participation and subscription information for this EDUCAUSE Constituent Group discussion list can be found at http://www.educause.edu/groups/.
To Carolynn or anyone else using both SkyDrive free/personal and Pro:
Are your students using whatever personal email address they want when signing up for SkyDrive personal or are they using your school email address?
If anyone who also signed up for Office 365 is having success using school email addresses for Skydrive free/personal account, I'd like to figure out what is different for your site versus us at D-E?
We have started using SkyDrive free accounts only (no Pro) for backup on our student Win 8 and Mac OSX computers. However, because we signed up for Office 365 (or actually it was Office Live at the time) when we were deciding between Microsoft and Google Drive for cloud apps a while back (we went Google), users can no longer sign up using a d-e.org email address to create a Microsoft account because it is associated with the school's Office 365 sign-up.
While I believe we could get SkyDrive Pro as part of a free version of Office 365, we have specific reasons to stick with the SkyDrive personal product as they work a little differently. On the SkyDrive personal side, while we don't feel the need to manage SkyDrive, but we'd like to have students use their D-E email address when they signup for consistency (like when a user gets confused and doesn't remember what email address was used with SkyDrive) and so we have at least tiny bit of control and access since we can access the email account if necessary.
Thanks in advance for any advice,
