I’m with you Pam.  I may have walked out.  Seems to me he has a one size fits all approach and women are expected to use this one approach.  I didn’t like that he dismissed affinity groups as weak, when in essence there is strength to be gained from others within the group which can help propel individual growth. I couldn’t help but think what his thoughts may have been on ethnic or racial minorities.    You can find role models and examples of good and bad leadership throughout an organization, but a mentor is supposed to be a trusted advisor.  The key here is trust which only comes from a very good relationship.  I recommend to my staff to get a team of mentors (2-3) who can help you navigate and advance your career.
