Here are the job particulars: Jobs Web Site: http://www.psu.jobs/ Database Specialist (Database Administrator/Programmer) Job Number: 37650 Date Announced: Work Unit: Information Technology Services Department: Identity Access Management Level/Band/Classification: 02 - K - Non-exempt 03 - L - Exempt The ITS Identity and Access Management (IAM) Team is seeking an experienced database administrator/programmer to support the administration and programming of databases related to the identity management infrastructure, including a new central person registry. The three components of IAM Services: Identity Management, Authentication, and Access Management provide critical, foundational capabilities for securing enterprise applications. These IAM services are provided as shared infrastructure to increase the utility and decrease the complexity of managing appropriate delivery of enterprise services through IT applications to the full range of enterprise customers: students, faculty, employees, and many others. The IAM Services effort within ITS was created to provide effective and efficient identity services to support the long-term needs for the institution. Reporting to the Principal Lead of the ITS IAM project, the typical duties will include: active participation in IAM Technical Architect Group meetings; ensuring proper operation and configuring multiple instances of the Oracle database; ensuring optimal performance of the instances; patching the database when security vulnerabilities arise; developing a strategy for backing up and restoring from the database; developing and implementing procedures for how failover between the database instances and developing database stored procedures to aid programmers in the development of the registry. Successful candidates will also be required to stay apprised and engaged in Penn State, national and international IAM related activities and contribute to the â€œunknown and unfamiliarâ€ work that will present itself to the IAM project team as a result of change in strategy or direction or in response to new legislation, for example. A willingness to explore new strategies and learning is a must. This job will be filled as a level 2, or level 3, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires an Associateâ€™s degree or higher plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 2. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. The successful candidate will demonstrate competencies in the following areas: administration of large scale database installations (Oracle is preferred); experience with Oracle Data Guard; ability to program stored procedures; the ability to work both independently and cooperatively; excellent analytical skills; excellent judgment and organizational skills; solid verbal and written communication skills; and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
