Message from dperrin@keene.edu

Hello and thank you for reading this message.

My institution is looking to offer users from two Active Directory domain controllers a way to reset a forgotten password over the web. There is a preference for purchasing a system over developing a custom solution.

I’m interested in recommendations or experiences from people who have worked with any open source or commercially supported web-based, self-service forgot password applications.

Thanks!

You may want to check out SSRPM applications that can leverage your emergency notification vendor.  We were able to leverage our SMS emergency notification vendor's API and create a simple web app that provides Self Service Password Reset Management.  It saved us a lot of work and effort and provides an incentive for people to sign up.

Good Luck,
Barry

In the past month there were two separate threads on the windows-hied@lists.stanford.edu mailing list on this topic. Here's a summary of the responses from there:

Goucher College uses Avatier Password Station (http://www.avatier.com/password-station.html). They are looking to use FIM 2010 R2's new web-based password management function (http://blogs.technet.com/b/aho/archive/2011/08/01/fim-2010-r2-web-based-...) in the near future when it is released.

American University of Beirut is hunting for a solution.

SUNY Maritime College is hunting for a solution. Looking at Manage Engine's product.

Unknown organization evaluated a "cool" solution from SpecOps.

Community College of Rhode Island uses Turbo-IT SMOP.

University of Oslo has a custom solution which sends new passwords via SMS.
