All,

Some of our creative staff from the University of Rochester would like to share their most recent production of “Phishing Bells”.  Please feel free to share with your communities as a fun way to educate on the do’s and don’ts when it comes to Phishing.   The video is on youtube: http://youtu.be/Kf79GVnKdKM

That certainly deserves as many views as USU's current claim to youtube fame:

(ours has nothing to do with Christmas or computer security, sorry)

Ok .. and I looked at both of these.  But should it bother me that the url for the Rochester  video is not youtube.com ?  Isn’t that what we tell people to avoid ?  And “No” I didn’t see that until after I watched the video – oops.

Youtu.be looked hanky to me, so I didn’t venture any further.

Luckily, youtu.be is owned by google, so its a perfectly fine link.  They use it to do URL shortening, now required with the advent of utra-short messages (mainly twitter).

Youtu.be is youtube's url shortener.  http://techcrunch.com/2009/12/21/youtube-url-shortener/

If you resolve both DNS names, youtube.com and youtu.be,  they both resolve to the same set of IP addresses.

Well, ours doesn't have a "hanky" youtu.be link, but I apologize if anyone watches ours all the way to the end.  It doesn't deserve 4 million hits.  I'd rather see the Rochester video get that coverage. (I've shared it around here, with it's "real" link.)

For abbreviated links, I use  <http://longurl.org/>  to get an indication of final destination

Fyi … ;-)

The funny url is Google’s url-shortening –service apparently.  My machine didn’t blow up when I went to the youtu.be url .. but that may just be because Cameron is my protector. ;-)

Apologies – I need to watch those addresses more carefully.

Re: [SECURITY] Sharing a Holiday Security Awareness Video Thanks Sally et al.,

We are very proud of our team’s creative efforts.  They did this creation on their own and it has been a big hit around campus.  The person in the middle is a student employee and was part of our “Yellow Jacket” acapella group that competed on the sing off :).

Happy holidays...
