Good afternoon:

The Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges was pleased to announce completion of the Open Course Library during a press call today.

As promised during the call, the latest Updated Cost Analysis of the Open Course Library from Student PIRGS (Public Interest Research Groups), is now available. Key finding: The Open Course Library has saved students $5.5 million in textbook costs to date, including $2.9 million during the 2012-2013 academic year alone. The vast majority, $5.1 million of these savings are within the Washington community and technical colleges.

If you weren’t able to join us this morning, the recording is now available:  OCL media conference call, April 30, 2013 [MP3].

The news release has been revised with the Student PIRGS report and conference call file links: Washington state community and technical colleges announces 81-course library of free and low-cost educational resources

At the bottom of the news release you will find links to information you may find useful in localizing a story to your media area:

·         OCL Courses and Faculty Contacts by College

·         OCL Fact Sheet and Success Stories

·         Tacoma CC Liberate $250k

Thank you again for your interest. Feel free to contact me or Connie Broughton if you have questions.

Best regards,

~ Sherry
