Hello,

I work for the Office of Information Technology (OIT) which provides centralized IT services for CU-Boulder, a large research university serving approximately 30,000 students.  We have 190 staff members and no dedicated QA group.  While testing (as a function of QA) does occur in projects, it’s not in a standardized or comprehensive way.  What does QA look like at other, similar institutions in terms of processes or organization structure?  How have PMOs integrated QA into your projects?  Thanks!

Hell all, Very basic question today: does anyone have a favorite book for Microsoft Project 2010? I need to create a project baseline and then run a series of alternative scenarios against it to forecast potential project risks and devise contingencies. My handy VUE book Using Project 2010 is ok but I'm wondering if there a more robust resource that can get me deeper into the weeds. Thank you. Thom Thom W. HI,

We are in the infancy of forming a campus wide project surrounding a campus mapping initiative/service.

More than the traditional ESRI/GIS based service/project that we have today.  Something “next generation”.

This list came to mind to me as a possible networking opportunity in assisting in creating our RFP.

Does anyone have any recent RFP documents you are willing to share surrounding a campus wide “mapping” project?

Thanks,

All,

I’ve been asked to develop some PM training for our Management Advisory Board, basically all of the managers below the director level in the organization.   One of the specific focus areas I have been given is the interaction between PM and “regular” managers.

1.        What does a PM need from the managers?

2.       How should the manager interact with (or use if appropriate) the pm that is in charge of the project?  Assuming the manager has people on the project.

I’ve “Googled” a few combinations of this and the hits always come back to what the PM should do when interacting with the...

Dave,

Feel free to touch base with me offline at your convenience. I may be able to answer some of your questions. We have a Service Catalog, which is going into its 2nd release soon, and a CMDB.  We have yet to migrate all of our services over to the CMDB, but several thousand configuration items are being tracked  with appropriate parent/child relationships. Our implementation is based on BMC's ITSM suite.  I can cover the details (good, bad and ugly) when we speak.

Greetings,

Has anyone done a Performance Management project before? My department is interested in implementing a Performance Management process/system for our PMO group. If it goes well with the PMO group, then we would like to roll it out to other groups in our department. My department is part of the Division of Information Technologies at UW Madison. As a state university, we currently don't have a good process to make pay adjustments for our employees. We would like to move to a performance base pay adjustment system; therefore, we need to have a good performance management process/system in place.

We have done some online research but were not able to find much information on "how" to implement a Performance Management Process/System in higher ed. If you have done a project like this, we would really appreciate if...

Basically, where their CCTV is run from (onsite/offsite) and who manages it (contracted, university IT, public safety, etc.).  I didn’t really know where to start, so I thought I would ask you all.  I imagine this might turn into a project, so maybe it’s not totally random for this list. :o)

Hi All,

We are in the process of reviewing various Project Management applications and are considering Microsoft Project Server 2010. We are utilizing Project 2010 to some degree but would love to talk to some schools about their 2010 server environment, including a demo. Would anyone be willing to provide a demo of your environment to us? Other items we’d like to talk about are lessons learned, would you choose Project again if you had the choice, etc?

I’ve heard Project is not the most intuitive and difficult to set up correctly. I’d like to hear if most people feel this way.

Thanks,

Cathy

We have Outlook Live for students and on-premise Exchange server for employees. We are considering an consolidated Office 365 environment. We also have a VOIP/unified communications project underway primarily as a PBX replacement, however, the VOIP solution we are looking at includes bundled unified communication components. I wanted to know if any other schools are in a similar situation of trying to figure out how to pick and choose between Office 365 unified communication components and those included in a VOIP solution. I have learned a great deal from watching this list and I am hoping you can give me some direction on how you have your staff track and report their time against assignments/projects.  We have never tracked staff time, but want to when we move to our new project management system.  Will you share with me, and the others on the on the list how you do this?  Do you track in time increments and update time daily or just have a person provide approximations at the end of the week?  Do you track administrative time as well as project and operational time?  Is it worth tracking time?  Any information and guidance you can share will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

We are interested in connecting with other universities that have implemented CRM. If you have CRM in place, please reply with the following information:

Do any of you have policy management software implemented at your school?  We’re looking for software that supports management of the full policy lifecycle – writing a policy, approvals and workflow, storage, dissemination, end user reading/review of the policy, possibly even taking some quiz questions at the end, change notifications, etc.

Just wondering what you all are using for such a thing, as we are looking to kick off a project to implement software for this purpose.  Looking to understand the vendors out there.

Since project management will be just one of several qualifications for the position, I will only have the opportunity to ask 1-2 questions. As such, I definitely want to make them count.
