Hello,

We’re embarking on a transition to VoIP, and would appreciate examples of RFPs for such projects, from anyone who is willing to share. I’ll be discreet about keeping any institutional specifics private, as you please.

Boilerplate sections from RFPs – VoIP-related or not – would also be welcome, such as “General Conditions”  types of sections.

Thanks, Jeff

Hello,

Do any of your PM departments provide training/education in project management  to the institution or to your clients?

If so, is it required?

Do you provide any internal certification thru your training?

Do you have any materials that could be shared for training.

Do you provide any marketing presentations on why Project Management is important to the organization?

If so, can you share any presentation material?

Thank so much for any assistance,

Greetings,

I run UC Davis's central IT Project Management Office and am working to establish a project manager growth path where I'm attempting to establish the criteria for evaluating a Project Manager's knowledge, skill and ability.  This will assist in our hiring process and will create well defined areas of improvement for PMs seeking upward mobility within the organization.

I'm envisioning a matrix (shocking I know), that would have the criteria as column headers (perhaps something along the lines of Presentation Skills, Size/Scope of Previous projects, Documentation Skills, Soft Skill & Political Acumen, Technology proficiency,  years of experience, etc.) and the PM Levels (1-10) as rows within the matrix. The contents of each cell would reflect gradually increasing levels of PM maturity ranging from inexperienced (1) to seasoned veteran (10).

Dear PM Colleagues, Many of our noncredit offering units use their own systems to capture program/course specific financial information. There are lots of duplicate data entry points and many manual steps to reconcile the financial information in the current processes. We are looking to consolidate these systems into just few or one system. Have any of you done a noncredit accounting consolidation project and if so, do you have recommendations on a good noncredit accounting system? I have been asked to do a little research to find out how other universities handle their CCTV service. Basically, where their CCTV is run from (onsite/offsite) and who manages it (contracted, university IT, public safety, etc.).  I didn’t really know where to start, so I thought I would ask you all.  I imagine this might turn into a project, so maybe it’s not totally random for this list. :o)

Any responses would be appreciated.

Hi All,

We are in the process of reviewing various Project Management applications and are considering Microsoft Project Server 2010. We are utilizing Project 2010 to some degree but would love to talk to some schools about their 2010 server environment, including a demo. Would anyone be willing to provide a demo of your environment to us? Other items we’d like to talk about are lessons learned, would you choose Project again if you had the choice, etc?

I’ve heard Project is not the most intuitive and difficult to set up correctly. I’d like to hear if most people feel this way.

Thanks,

We have Outlook Live for students and on-premise Exchange server for employees. We are considering an consolidated Office 365 environment. We also have a VOIP/unified communications project underway primarily as a PBX replacement, however, the VOIP solution we are looking at includes bundled unified communication components. I wanted to know if any other schools are in a similar situation of trying to figure out how to pick and choose between Office 365 unified communication components and those included in a VOIP solution. I have learned a great deal from watching this list and I am hoping you can give me some direction on how you have your staff track and report their time against assignments/projects.  We have never tracked staff time, but want to when we move to our new project management system.  Will you share with me, and the others on the on the list how you do this?  Do you track in time increments and update time daily or just have a person provide approximations at the end of the week?  Do you track administrative time as well as project and operational time?  Is it worth tracking time?  Any information and guidance you can share will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Feel free to touch base with me offline at your convenience. I may be able to answer some of your questions. We have a Service Catalog, which is going into its 2nd release soon, and a CMDB.  We have yet to migrate all of our services over to the CMDB, but several thousand configuration items are being tracked  with appropriate parent/child relationships. Our implementation is based on BMC's ITSM suite.  I can cover the details (good, bad and ugly) when we speak.

We are interested in connecting with other universities that have implemented CRM. If you have CRM in place, please reply with the following information:

·         Is your CRM solution for students only, or are you also using it to increase corporate/industry contacts too?
