Has anyone ever attended the Gartner PPM & IT Governance Summit in the past? http://www.gartner.com/technology/summits/na/program-management/

The overview, agenda, and purpose seems like it would certainly bring value for me attend, but I’m wondering if anyone has ever attended and if so, could please share their experience.

Thanks,

Michael:

I attended in 2010 and got a lot of good concepts out of it. It doesn’t always fit in higher ed’s culture. I cycle through events like this every several years, not every year. Thanks, ML

Hi,

I also attended several years ago and then again last year.  I also think it tends to be higher level and doesn’t always take into account the higher ed culture.  However, there usually are about 10-20 folks from higher ed institutions there.

Thanks,

Christina

Hi all;  I attended Gartner’s PPM summit a couple of years ago too, and found a few friends and colleagues there from higher education.  Most attendees are not from higher ed though.   However, if you are starting down the PPMO or EPMO path, and want to see a lot of products in one place to determine what to evaluate, and you want to hear Gartner strategists talk about planning and implementing a PPMO, then I think this is a most worthwhile event in which to collect a lot of information.  It will have more project and program management content than you will find at Educause.  I was actually a bit disappointed at how few the PM sessions and events were at Educause this year.   The constituent group meeting was full and active - maybe we can get more worked into it next year.

Michael,

I also went a couple of years ago.  I agree with Mary’s description.  Although it presented some good concepts,  I didn’t feel that many fit into the HE environment.  I also felt it was expensive when I compared it to the PMI Congress and PMO Symposium which are two events I felt provide equal or greater value.

I agree on the point of too few Project Management sessions at Educause. I think that is a challenge to all of us to get busy for next year.

What I find interesting is that I submitted the same PM presentation to both Educause and the PMI Global Congress this year and Educause did not select my presentation and the PMI Global Congress did.  I’m not sure Project Management is as high a concern for the national Educause convention in general as it once had been.

Dale,

I actually attended your outstanding presentation at PMI's Vancouver conference this year.  I talked with a number of others at the end of the session who indicated they really found strong value in your information.

As a new member of this list, I'm not sure I can speak to whether EDUCAUSE is falling short or not. I do think though, observed by the fact that PMI itself does not have a Community of Practice for Higher Education, indicates that there may be an opportunity for those of us involved in PM work as our primary focus to continue to express the need on multiple levels to convince decision makers that there is a reason to visit this topic on an annual basis.

Humbly submitted,
Mike

Everyone,
Thank you for your thoughtful comments related to a lack of PM sessions at this year's Educause conference. I will be passing along those comments to the conference planning group and will strongly encourage all of you to consider what expertise you have to share when the call for proposals for the 2013 conference is opened.

Regards,
Sherri

Dale,

Would it be possible to share your presentation?  Is it available on the web or can you personally send it to me.

Thanks,
