We have Outlook Live for students and on-premise Exchange server for employees. We are considering an consolidated Office 365 environment. We also have a VOIP/unified communications project underway primarily as a PBX replacement, however, the VOIP solution we are looking at includes bundled unified communication components. I wanted to know if any other schools are in a similar situation of trying to figure out how to pick and choose between Office 365 unified communication components and those included in a VOIP solution. Dave, We are in a very similar situation, having migrated students to 'the cloud' last fall and employees to on-premise Exchange this summer, we are now in the midst of implementing our new Cisco VoIP solution. During our VoIP RFP process, we had a lot of discussion on how best to satisfy our unified communications requirements. I would be happy to schedule a time for members of our team to speak with your team about our findings and how we plan to proceed. Yes we are in that boat. We are piloting Lync for video conferencing but using Cisco VoIP as our strategic PBX solution. I would love to talk with folks who are working on this. -T Tina Meier Director, Server Administration Information Technology Oklahoma State University System 003 Math Sciences Stillwater, OK  74074 tina.meier@okstate.edu 405-744-9375
We piloted both Cisco and Lync and ended up selecting Lync for Unified Communications including VOIP, however, we still have a Cisco Call Manager in the mix acting as an IP PBX. We have about 3/4 of our phones (~2000 enterprise voice users so far) converted to Lync from legacy Siemens phones. Thanks, Dan
Hello Everyone, University of the Pacific is investigating UC solutions and is indeed a passenger in the same boat. We will pilot Office 365 offerings for VC, UC, and perhaps VoIP, and we have a Cisco VoIP solution. I would be open to having a discussion on this as well. Please include me if one will be scheduled. Thanks, Faye Faye Snowden, PMP fsnowden@pacific.edu OIT-Director of Communications Infrastructure University of the Pacific Stockton, CA 95211 Office: 209 946-3968 Fax: 209 932-4003
Would folks be interested in participating on a group conference call on this if I put one together? I posed this question on several email lists, and it seems there are a lot of schools struggling with this issue at the moment. Dave >
