Change to MS Visual Studio offerings under Campus Agreement EES
Hi all,
It’s been a long time since I’ve posted here but thought I’d share this since we always seem to be among the first to get hit with negative Campus Agreement changes.
With our renewal this year and the advent of Visual Studio 2012, Microsoft has removed (or not replaced) the SKU (C5E-00181) for Visual Studio, which some of our departments have licensed as an Add On for years. In the past the Visual Studio CALs ran us less than $700 per year. Because they now only offer Visual Studio 2012 with MSDN CALs, this year’s quote was in the $20K range for the same number of seats.
We’re not renewing the Visual Studio enrollment; instructional units will hopefully be covered under MSDN Academic Alliance agreements and the non-instructional departments will have to buy new licenses under open or select.
Anybody else remember when they pulled SQL out of the Core CAL without giving us a heads up? It feels a bit like déjà vu.
