Hi Mitzi,

Microsoft has contracted Kivuto to do exactly this for the Student Option program – your users can get a free license of Office and/or Windows with a single use key, secure download (if necessary) and perpetual use rights. There is no cost to your University or the user. In addition to Office Pro Plus 2010 and Windows 7 Pro/Ultimate, we can also manage upgrades to Win 8 Pro (and soon to be released Office 2013) as part of the SA benefit if you choose.

We would provide a Wake Forest University with a custom-branded, fully hosted software distribution platform that would automatically authenticate users, manage the license compliance, enforce policies, and provide the single use key and secured download.

Please visit http://kivuto.com/student-option or contact me directly for more information.

Best regards,

Ryan,
We already have the website.  We are looking for a solution for students that have already graduated?  Also, once we wipe their machines of software, can they still use your downloads?

Janice,
Do you use the MAK key or KMS key from Microsoft?

HI Mitzi.  We use MAK - they hit against the MS servers since some of the students may never come to campus to hit a campus KMS server, like our distance students.  If they want actual media, we sell them the "work at home" media with individual serial numbers.  We actually advise them to come buy the individual media before they graduate so they'll have their perpetual license after they leave, if they need to rebuild the computer.

We use the KMS method since WFU owns the laptops.   One thing I found out yesterday, is that we are not suppose to use the MAK for graduating students, they are to have their individual serial numbers before they leave as they would continue to be on our Campus license if we let them use the MAK numbers.

It will be interesting to see if Office 365 and the whole push to the cloud ends up changing the environment for all of this.
