Hi all,

Does anyone else  offer limited Guest logins on campus  computers in their info commons and/or library?   Guests are local community users or students from other universities.  If yes, how do you manage it?

Thanks in advance.

Our Library is a Federal Depository Library and, as such, we must allow the General Public access to our resources.

We maintain a generic "Internet" account that can ONLY login in a certain set of workstations in our Library and which has no privileges or access to local network resources (i.e., file shares).  They can print only to a printer behind the circulation desk and must pay for printouts.

Our domain users log into the domain and have certain access to network shares. Our library has 4 computers that have a generic local account. The librarians don't give out the username and password for that account. They log the guests in. Those computers are not, however, reserved for guests. If a student is already using the computer, they have priority. We do not have any other guest access to "public" computers on campus. We do have a guest wireless network that is restricted to ports 80 and 443. The SSID is not broadcast.
