We are looking to save a few bucks on an upcoming campus core upgrade by using 3rd party 10 Gbps SFP+ optics in place of Cisco’s optics. Actually the prices are a fraction of Cisco’s.  We are considering Champion One and Transition Network.  Has anyone used either of these products?  Have they been reliable?  Are there other vendors that you would recommend?

Thanks,

Ron

We have had good luck with this company.

We’ve been using ChampionOne for years.  Never had any problems.  Make sure you get the Cisco-specific optics.  I think they have a –C designation.

We can also endorse champion one.  We’ve had no problems with their optics having used them for years (although with Enterasys gear, not Cisco)

We have been doing business for some years with a company called Direct 2 OEM (http://www.direct2oem.com) and have found them substantially less expensive than Champion.  (Hey, if we are going for low price, what the heck!)  Within the last year we have purchased SFP+ from them, and their optics seem entirely compatible, including digital optical monitoring.  IIRC, at one point we bought some sfp's that ended up not working in a 6500 in Hybrid mode, and we had no problem returning them.
