Anyone out there using a third party softphone with Cisco’s Callmanager?  If so can you reply with which one and your opinion(s) on how well it works.

Thanks,

Brian

I have used this in the past.  It works on mac as well.

We have looked at a number of 3rd party products (free & commercial).

Cisco Call Manager requires support for SIP authname, and many of the SIP clients out there do not support this.

We have found the Counterpath software (Bria is a newer version of x-lite) to be one of the most reliable and feature-rich. http://www.counterpath.com/bria.html

x-lite is their old, free and now (I suspect) unsupported client.

The biggest challenge we have faced is making this work without running a VPN client on the workstation/smartphone.

It’s a bit inconvenient on workstations, but completely unworkable on a smartphone (very high battery drain and frequent drops when moving in/out of wifi coverage).

Cisco has stated this is the only way of making this work when your Call Manager infrastructure is securely locked-away on a private network.

I find this hard to believe.

Has anyone found a way to safely overcome this restriction?
