Is anyone using application performance monitoring?  We would are looking into this for two reasons.

  1. To keep an eye on the end user experience for key applications and to be alerted if a query takes too long, for example.
  2. To  be notified when applications fail but don't have a way to tell us, e.g. the email service stops responding but doesn't actualy crash.
We currently use Cacti and Nagios for trending and monitoring and alerting.  We are fans of the open source.

Thanks
