Greetings,

Does anyone know of a way to speed up BGP convergence time?  We are dual homed and run BGP to prefer one provider while  the other is used as a backup.  When the primary goes down due to a failure or planned maintenance, it takes about 30 seconds for inbound traffic to fail over to the backup provider resulting in an outage for the users.  If someone knows of a way to speed up the process and reduce the down time we would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Hi Ron,

Ask your provider if they use bi-directional forwarding. You can use this technology to get sub-second convergence in BGP.
