Hello all, and thank you in advance for any input received.  Our college is in the process of web site refresh and with it, are changing platforms (to Joomla based).  In this process we are also looking at a hosting provider to host the site for us.  Some of the main reasons that we are discussing this is that we believe that if we were to ever experience a prolonged network outage, or an influx of requests to our site for any number of reasons, we could still have an active web site.  Is anyone else doing this, or contemplating this?  If so, anything we should look out for?

Thank you,

Jim Stasik

Hi Jim,

Take a look at Amazon EC2. http://aws.amazon.com/ec2/  . The pricing and services are very confusing at first because of their goofy naming schemes, but once you get the hang of it they are great and flexible. You can try a base Linux instance for free for one year to get your feet wet. It's basically a version of Centos/Redhat.  We use it as a DR backup for our sirte but I think we'll be expanding our services there because we like it so much.
