It's been awhile since I've been on a team that tried to join MACs to AD and manage them like PCs.  In the past when we have tried to do this MACs would consistently just "fall off" the network, printing mapping of home directories would be inconsistent.  We gave up and just have to manage MACs manually.  MACs have to print directly via IP printing.

With the steady growth of college owned MACs on campus networksI wonder what folks are doing to manage them.  Perhaps the environment has changed and someone has stepped up with an AD add-on.

We looked into Open Directory but it looks like support for that is waning along with the MAC server hardware.  Ideally

Sorry, that last message when out before I was ready.

Ideally we would be able to manage MACs from AD.  If you are doing this what tools are you using to make it work and what problems are you having if any.

Thank you

There was a method for extending the schema years ago circa Snow Leopard timeframe but has since fallen by the wayside. Currently we are using Casper by Jamf Software for management. This environment while having some Java-based glitches with administration from time to time has been working pretty well for us.
